Arizona shortstop Kevin Newman set a Cape Cod League record by winning back-to-back batting titles over the past two summers.

Arizona Wildcats infielder Kevin Newman became the first player to win consecutive batting titles in the Cape Cod Baseball League, securing the honor Tuesday with a pair of base hits for the Falmouth Commodores.

Newman, who was the first freshman to win the batting title crown with a .375 average last season, returned to hit .380 over 31 regular season games this year.

  • Sahuarita High senior pitcher Sati Santa Cruz, a 2015 UA commit, was among 38 players selected for the Under Armour All-America Game at Chicago’s Wrigley Field on Aug. 16. The game will air Aug. 17 on the MLB network.
  • At the Tucson City Tennis Championship, UA’s Matthew Dunn and Naoki Takeda beat Evan Feldhausen and Jonathan Davis 8-4 for the men’s open doubles title Sunday, and Dunn lost to Mitch McDaniels 6-3, 6-1 in the singles final. On the women’s side, Jamie Schroer beat Amy Schmiedeler 6-0, 6-0 for the singles title and teammed with Melissa Schroer to beat Rita Bermudez and Schmiedeler 6-3, 6-1 for the doubles title.
