Salt Lake scored seven runs in the first two innings Friday night and held on to beat the visiting Tucson Padres 8-4 in the first of a four-game series.
Salt Lake's Efren Navarro hit an RBI double in the first and a two-run double in the second.
Tucson scored a run in the first after Travis Buck had a two-out single and James Darnell drove him in with a double.
The Padres scored three times in the third. Rocky Gale led off with an infield single, and Dean Anna followed with a double. Gale scored on a ground out, and Buck hit a two-run homer.
Tucson starter Thad Weber (3-1) began the game with a 2.65 ERA. He allowed seven earned runs in 4 1/3 innings, and his ERA ballooned to 5.06.
