The San Diego Padres traded reliever Ernesto Frieri tonight for two Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim minor leaguers, including second baseman Alexi Amarista.

Tucson Padres manager Terry Kennedy said today he expects Amarista, who is hitting .273 in Triple-A this year, to report to Tucson soon.

"He's always played well against us," Kennedy said. "He's got some versatility."

Kennedy said it "might be a good break" for Amarista, given that the Angels have Howie Kendrick at second base.

Tucson will likely lose a relief pitcher to San Diego, Kennedy said, but he didn't know who the call-up would be.

Also today, pitcher Tim Stauffer, who was slated to start Opening Day for San Diego before hurting his right elbow, reported to Tucson.

He will start Friday night's game and throw about 80 pitches.

All-Star Carlos Quentin, rehabbing his knee, got a scheduled night off.
