After losing three straight at Sacramento, the Tucson Padres erupted for 18 hits to beat the first-place River Cats 13-3 on Monday night.

Tucson (67-63) jumped out to a 4-0 lead in the first inning, and got two doubles each from Gregorio Petit and Dan Robertson.

Brandon Allen went 3 for 5 with two RBIs for the Padres, who are five back of Sacramento (72-58).

The teams play again tonight in Sacramento.

Burch Smith (5-1) picked up the win for Tucson, allowing two runs on four hits over five innings.

Relievers Tommy Layne, Kevin Quackenbush and Miles Mikolas backed up Smith.

The Padres had 11 hits and eight runs against Sacramento starter Carlos Hernandez.

Tucson returns home Wednesday against Tacoma at 7:05 p.m. at Kino Stadium.
