• Cincinnati Reds manager Dusty Baker said Wednesday that right-hander Johnny Cueto will start the opener of the NL division series against San Francisco. Cueto went 19-9 this season. The first two games in the best-of-five series will be played Saturday and Sunday in San Francisco. Baker also indicated that Bronson Arroyo will likely start Game 2, followed by Mat Latos in Game 3.

• Nationals manager Davey Johnson missed the end of Washington's regular-season finale because of numbness in his left leg that was traced to pinched nerves in his back. The 69-year-old Johnson is the oldest skipper in the majors.

• By losing to the Chicago Cubs on Wednesday, the Houston Astros finished 55-107, one more loss than last year. The Astros became the first team with 106 or more losses in consecutive seasons since the 1964-65 New York Mets.

• Cubs OF Alfonso Soriano said he is open to being traded in the offseason if the Cubs don't plan on contending. "I just want to have one more shot to go to the World Series before I (retire)," Soriano said. The 36-year-old said he will seriously consider retiring when his contract expires after the 2014 season.

• The Cubs drew 2,882,756 to Wrigley Field this season, the first time under 3 million at home since 2003.

• The Philadelphia Phillies fired first base coach Sam Perlozzo, bench coach Pete Mackanin and hitting coach Greg Gross.

• The Chicago Cubs have fired third base coach Pat Listach.
