So how did Jahii Carson drop 40 points at UNLV on Nov. 19 anyway?
UNLV coach Dave Rice said he focused on stopping the Sun Devils' perimeter shooting game. That strategy both worked (ASU shot 5 for 20 from three) but also backfired, allowing Carson more opportunities. Carson was effective in transition, gaining multiple and-ones, and called on Jordan Bachynski to set ball screens, according to the Republic game story .
"He was fabulous in that game," Rice said. "We wanted to make sure we limited them from three but we didn't do a great job of containing Jahii.
"They're a much-improved team. They're hard to play against. You think about Jahii being one of the premier players in the game and then the way they space the floor with the three."
