Wearing a blue suit that resembles the color of the team that picked him, Aaron Gordon is congratulated after being selected No. 4 by Orlando.

Aaron Gordon’s brief time in Tucson was charmed, punctuated with promising peeks of future stardom.

He was magic. Thursday, he became one.

The Orlando Magic selected Gordon with the No. 4 overall pick, making the rangy, athletic forward an instant millionaire and — in Tucson — the latest in a line of first-round picks. Even by the Wildcats’ high standards, Gordon stands out. Only three UA stars have ever been picked higher, and they’re the stuff of legend. Mike Bibby. Sean Elliott. Derrick Williams.

Gordon’s success came via sweat, not sorcery. Coaches and teammates praised his work ethic, sportsmanship and selflessness during his time at Arizona. It helped, too, that his leaping ability and willingness to learn complex concepts were off the charts.

Tucson’s magic man now belongs to Orlando. It’ll be fun to watch the leap.
