The Portland Trail Blazers took Arizona Wildcats forward Grant Jerrett with the  No. 40 pick in tonight's NBA Draft.

Jerrett started only two games for the Wildcats as a freshman last season, averaging 17.8 minutes per game, but hit 40.5 percent of his three-pointers and his combination of shooting and size intrigued NBA scouts.

Jerrett was the second Arizona player taken in the draft, after Solomon Hill went in the first round (23) to Indiana. As a second-round pick, Jerrett is not assured of receiving a guaranteed contract.

UA coach Sean Miller quickly issued a statement via Twitter after the selection.

"Although Grant was a part of our program for a short time, he demonstrated a multitude of talents as a player," Miller said. "Grant's high skill level, strong work ethic and unique size give him a very bright future in the NBA."

Arizona has two other candidates who are not expected to be drafted: Guard Mark Lyons and wing Kevin Parrom.
