Arizona Wildcats coach Sean Miller has been named an assistant for USA Basketball's U18 team, to be led by Florida's Billy Donovan this summer.

It will be Miller's first full coaching assignment for USA Basketball, after he served as a court coach for the training camp of the 2011 World University Games and won a gold medal as a player in the 1991 World University Games.

“I had a tremendous experience representing my country in 1991 as player on the USA World University Games team, and I couldn’t be more excited for a chance to once again be part of USA Basketball,” Miller said in a USA Basketball statement. “Our program here at Arizona has a long and successful relationship with USA Basketball and I’m honored to add to that legacy.

“Billy Donovan and (fellow assistant) Ed Cooley are both great people, as well as great basketball coaches. I’m excited for the opportunity to work with them closely as we prepare the 2014 USA Men’s U18 National Team to live up to the high standards that previous USA Basketball teams have established.”

Not only will the assignment allow Miller to work with a good friend in Donovan, but also to gain further exposure to elite high school prospects. Players for the U18 team must have been born in 1996 or later.

UA signee Stanley Johnson has won two previous gold medals with USA Basketball and, having been born in May 1996, will be eligible to join the U18 team and Miller said he's looking forward to working with him.

USA Basketball will hold a training camp for the U18 team in Colorado Springs, Colo., between June 10-19. The team will then play in the FIBA Americas U18 Championship, which also includes Argentina, Brazil, Canada, Dominican Republic, Mexico, Puerto Rico, and Uruguay. Dates and location for the games are not set yet.

The top four finishing teams will qualify for the 2015 FIBA U19 World Championship.

UA freshman Aaron Gordon won the MVP last summer while leading USA to the gold medal in the U19 World Championships. That team was also coached by Donovan.
