The Arizona Wildcats will play their annual spring football game April 14 at Kino Stadium, the UA announced at tonight's NIT basketball game. (The game is also listed on Kino's schedule of events).
The scrimmage is scheduled to kick off at 1 p.m.; though the UA has yet to sign a contract for the game, the deal is expected to be finalized soon.
Ongoing construction at Arizona Stadium has forced the UA to move its two spring scrimmages off-campus. The Wildcats will play March 24 in the Phoenix area at a yet-to-be-announced site, likely in the west valley.
The spring game will be held three weeks later at Kino.
Tucson’s south-side park is home to the Triple-A Tucson Padres, but has hosted football and soccer games in recent months. UA officials attended the Jan. 16 Casino del Sol College All-Star Game, which drew more than 7,800 fans, and came away impressed.
The spring game will mark Tucsonans’ first chance to see new coach Rich Rodriguez’s spread-option offense and 3-3-5 “odd stack” defense. The Wildcats are off this week for spring break, but will return to practice March 21.
