Arizona Wildcats football: UA adds to QB stable for 2013

The Arizona Wildcats added another quarterback to their 2013 recruiting class late today.

Tommy Woodson, a senior-to-be at Monroeville (Pa.) Gateway High School, tweeted that he committed to the UA. He wrote that he would “like to thank everyone! But I’m committing to the UNIVERSITY OF ARIZONA! #BEARDOWN.

The 6-foot-2-inch, 200-pound Woodson is rated as a two-star recruit and the nation’s 74th-best quarterback prospect by Scout.com. He completed 63 of 106 passes for 1,184 yards and 11 touchdowns as a junior, and was intercepted twice. Woodson also rushed 66 times for 308 yards and three scores. A dozen major programs recruited Woodson, including Alabama, UCLA and West Virginia, but Arizona was so far the only school to offer a scholarship.

Woodson figures to face plenty of competition once he arrives. The Wildcats have already signed Las Vegas Bishop Gorman star Anu Solomon, the state of Nevada’s all-time leading passer, for 2013. They’ll join a quarterback crew that, for now, includes seven other players: Richard Morrison, Javelle Allen, Josh Kern, B.J. Denker, Alex Cappellini, Jack Nykaza and Nick Isham.

Nykaza and Isham, a transfer from Louisiana Tech, was added to the UA’s roster last week. Incoming freshman Bryan Harper played quarterback in high school, but is so far slated to play receiver at the UA.
