The Arizona Wildcats have picked a field design for 2013, and it includes "ghost lettering", navy end zones and — of course — a "Block A" logo. Athletic director Greg Byrne tweeted the image this morning.

The UA is switching to a FieldTurf CoolPlay surface in 2013 after having grass throughout the program's history. The $1 million field will debut this fall.

The University of Maryland was the first school in the country to use the CoolPlay turf when it installed it last year. Arizona Stadium is believed to be just the second major stadium in the country to use it. CoolPlay reduces the on-field temperature 15-20 degrees while still getting the full quality of synthetic turf. It's still not quite as cool as natural grass, but it provides a more sturdy and consistent playing surface.

Byrne told the Star last week that the new technology is "a big deal at Arizona Stadium."
