Salpointe Catholic senior first baseman Michael Hoard signed his national letter of intent with the Arizona Wildcats this morning. He signed his letter with a few family members at the house in a private ceremony.

He committed to the Wildcats the summer after his sophomore season and has had to wait more than a year to sign with coach Andy Lopez's team. He was finally allowed to sign on Wednesday and is excited to be part of the Wildcats.

"This is what I've always wanted," Hoard said.

The left-handed hitting first baseman will likely be drafted in June's Major League Baseball Draft. He will then have the option of signing with the organization that drafts him or attending Arizona. He said he will wait to see where he is picked and how much money is offered before he makes his final decision.

Hoard wasn't the only local athlete to sign with the Wildcats on Wednesday. Flowing Wells gymnastics standout Selynna Felix-Terrazas signed with Arizona as did Ironwood Ridge swimmer Sara Borendame.
