Sahuaro pitcher and outfielder Alex Verdugo, a first-team Loiusville Slugger All-American this season, has verbally committed to ASU.

Verdugo, who will also be playing in the Under Amour All-American game at Wrigley Field on Aug. 24, announced his commitment to the Sun Devils on twitter.

As a junior, the 6-foot 1-inch left hander went 10-0 with a 1.29 ERA and a state-high 131 strikeouts as the Cougars made it to the Division II state quarterfinals.

Verdugo was also huge at the plate, batting .484 with nine doubles, seven triples and seven home runs to help him drive in 41 runs.

He is likely to have an even bigger season as a senior and is a front runner for state player of the year. There is also a high likelihood that Verdugo is drafted next June and he will bypass college.
