Catalina Foothills senior Harvey Nelson made it easy for us to pick our boys runner of the year when he won the individual Division II state title with the fastest time among all four divisions and led the Falcons to the team title.

We didn’t even mention the fact that he beat coyote in the race, too.

Our decision for cross country is based off a combination of what happened at the state meet and what happened in the regular season and clearly, Nelson was the boys runner of the year.

Rio Rico junior Oscar Amaya was another candidate for the award having won the Division III title but Nelson finished his race 20 seconds faster than Amaya and, like we said, outran a coyote. He didn’t even know it until afterwards.
