This week's edition of Pick of the Preps listed tonight’s boys basketball game between Amphitheater and Sabino as something to watch.

That game has been moved to Monday, but that doesn’t mean there’s nothing else to catch tonight.

Instead, there’s an even bigger match-up.

Two-time defending state champion Salpointe Cathoilc travels to top-ranked Nogales in a must-win game to give the No. 18 Lancers a shot at making the state tournament next month.

Salpointe has won four straight matches and hasn’t given up a goal in its last three, outscoring opponents 14-0. Meanwhile, Nogales has won five matches in a row and hasn’t lost since Dec. 12 when it, coincidentally, fell 2-1 against the Lancers in the Chris Maier Invitational.

It is the second to last game for Nogales which closes the season at Sunnyside on Wednesday night. If the Apaches (14-4-1) were to beat Salpointe tonight, they would almost certainly lock up the No. 1 seed for the state tournament with a win over the Blue Devils next week.

Salpointe, on the other hand, could jump right back in position to make the state tournament with a win over Nogales tonight. However, the Lancers (13-5-1) host Sabino on Tuesday night and travel to No. 24 Rincon/University the following night in two must-win matches.
