The Sierra Vista School District governing board voted 5-0 today to retain second-year Buena High football coach Ryan Scherling.

He is expected to be back on the practice field today.

Scherling was placed on paid administrative leave last week by the district as it investigated an internal matter involving him.

Following the investigation, the governing board held a special session today and voted 5-0 not to issue a notice of intent to dismiss Scherling. He presented his resignation but no vote was taken to accept it.

While Scherling was away, assistant coaches Brice Bernbeck and Corey Seiuli were the acting head coaches for the Colts in the interim.

Last year, Scherling led the Colts to an 8-3 mark and their first playoff appearance since 1993.
