Out of the five selections for player of the year from this winter sports season, Sahuaro senior forward Jasmine Simmons had to be one of the easiest picks.

Simmons, who is signed to play for the UA, led the state with a 39 goals to help the Cougars reach the Division II state semifinals. She had 13 multi-goal games and seven hat tricks.

The Star’s second pick would have been Catalina Foothills senior forward Aminah Settles, who scored 27 goals to go along with nine assists as she helped the Falcons reach the state finals for the fifth straight year.

However, Simmons’ dominant season was just too much to overcome.
