With Desert Christian winning consecutive matches in straight sets Friday, there are three Southern Arizona girls volleyball teams one win away from the state finals.
The second-seeded Eagles (23-8) beat Teec Nos Pos Red Mesa and Glendale Joy Christian in the first two rounds of the Division IV state tournament at Tim's Toyota Center in Prescott Valley.
Desert Christian will play No. 6 St. Johns at the same location Saturday at 9 a.m. and a win there would send the Eagles to the state championship game for the first time in school history. The final match is set for 4 p.m. Saturday, as well.
Meanwhile, Ironwood Ridge and Tucson High both won Thursday night in the Division II quarterfinals and will return to action Saturday at Gilbert Mesquite High School.
Second-seeded I-Ridge (35-7) will take on No. 3 Phoenix Sunnyslope Saturday at noon as it tries to reach the state finals for the first time since 2004. Two hours later, the No. 5 Badgers (37-3) will face top-seeded Gilbert Campo Verde as it tries to reach the state finals for the first time.
All three semifinal matches will be broadcast live on the NFHS Network at http://www.nfhsnetwork.com/channels/arizona.
