Canyon del Oro star defensive end John Jackson may have been one of the later verbal commits this year but he was the first local football player to sign his national letter of intent this morning.

The Dorados held their celebration at 8 a.m. and it included Jackson signing with Wyoming. Along with the 6-foot-4-inch 255-pound senior was teammate J.J. Metz signing with Pima College and basketball player Ty Ochse signing with California Institute of Technology.

Jackson is one of eight players signing with a FBS schools today. As of last night, there were seven but Salpointe Catholic lineman Austin Weaver became the eighth this morning when he committed to Army after it offered him last night.

Weaver is expected to sign this afternoon at Salpointe Catholic which has a total of five Division-I bound players including Cameron Denson and Kaelin Deboskie who are signing with the Arizona Wildcats.

Sabino, which has three players signing Division-I football, will also hold a ceremony this afternoon. The big news there, of course, is three-star offensive tackle Andrew Mike who originally committed to Vanderbilt but is expected to sign with Florida.

Signing alongside Mike him will be Matt Bushman, who is going to BYU for both baseball and football, and Alex Turner, one of three local players signing with Army.
