Mountain View's girls soccer team debuted at No. 2 in the Division I seedings Tuesday.

There's a good chance that ranking could only get better.

The Mountain Lions are 5-0 in meaningful games so far and face only three current-top-20 opponents in their final seven games.

Mountain View was one of two Southern Arizona teams in the top 16 of the Division I rankings. It opens the second half of its season at Tucson tonight at 6 p.m.

The only other team was Sierra Vista Buena at No. 15. The Colts won the Tucson Champions Cup last month by beating Ironwood Ridge 2-1 in the final and open the second half of their season against Nogales tonight.

The Nighthawks are among five girls squads in the top 16 of the Division II seedings at No. 11.

Defending three-time state champion Catalina Foothills debuted at No. 3 in the seedings and host seventh-seeded Sahuaro tonight at 6 p.m. This will be the third time the two have met, with Foothills having won the first two matches.

Sahuarita came out one spot ahead Sahuaro at No. 6 and travels to Rio Rico this afternoon.

In the Division III seedings, Pusch Ridge Christian was the top Southern Arizona team at No. 2 and opens up it's second half with a tough test at Ironwood Ridge at 6:30 p.m.

Palo Verde, last year's state runner-up, was ranked fifth in the Division III as well while the Titans' boys squad came in at No. 4. Neither team plays tonight.

Salpointe Catholic (No. 7) and Catalina Foothills (No. 13) were the only two teams in the top 16 of the Division II boys seedings. Each team has won a state title within the last two years and they face off for the third time this season Thursday at 6 p.m.

There was also just a pair of Southern Arizona squads in the boys Division I seedings with Tucson ranked fifth and Rincon/University ranked 16th.

The seedings will be updated at 10 a.m. daily according to the Arizona Interscholastic Association. The top three teams from each division earn automatic bids while the final seven spots go out according to rankings.

The first round of the state tournament for girls kicks off three weeks from today while the boys open their tournament a day after that.
