Salpointe Catholic senior Andy Trouard was hoping to run the boys 3,200-meter run at the Willie Williams Classic in less than nine minutes.

Even though he didn't hit that mark Friday night at Roy P. Drachman Stadium, he was still plenty happy.

Trouard, a triple individual champion at last year's Division II state meet, won the event in 9 minutes 3.81 seconds and said he's right where he wants to be at this point in the season.

The second-year runner looked like he hasn't missed a beat since winning the Division II cross country state title in November.

Rincon/University senior Ryan Silva stayed with Trouard for the first 1,600 meters before Trouard took off and never looked back. He progressively extended his lead each lap and beat Silva by more than 100 meters.

"Right when I hit that mile i felt like I could go fast," Trouard said. "The faster I went, the better it felt so why stop?"

Silva, who finished second in the Division I cross country meet was second in 9:38.16 while Canyon del Oro's Andrew Garcia was third in 9:40.66.
