The Arizona Interscholastic Association has postponed all section tournaments planned for this weekend because of a "skin disease widespread in the state," Salpointe Catholic athletic director Phil Gruensfelder confirmed.

Salpointe was one of four schools in Southern Arizona hosting a section tournament on Saturday. Ironwood Ridge, Flowing Wells and Benson were the other three. There were 16 high schools state-wide scheduled to host.

"Due to the number of wrestlers reported with a skin infection, the AIA, as a precautionary measure, is postponing the AIA Sectional Wrestling Tournaments until further notice, originally scheduled to take place on Saturday, Feb. 8," the AIA said in a release Friday afternoon.

The state championship meet is scheduled to begin Thursday in Prescott Valley with state finals planned for Friday and Saturday which is a concern for local coaches.

The AIA has not announced when the section meets are being postponed until and if the state championships will change.

According to the release: "When competition resumes, any athlete with a suspicious skin lesion will not be permitted to participate in competition; furthermore, the mats will be disinfected between matches."
