News and notes:

--First baseman Matt Clark and infielder Everth Cabrera are out of the lineup for a second straight game. Clark hyperextended his bicep in Saturday's game and isn't quite ready to play tonight. Kennedy said he thought Clark would have a chance to play Tuesday. Cabrera is sidelined with a tight back and also had a good chance of being in the lineup Tuesday as well. Kennedy also didn't rule out using either as a pinch-hitter Monday, but thought it was unlikely.

--Starting pitcher Matt Palmer will make his Tucson Padres debut tonight after spending last season with Salt Lake City, the Angels' Triple-A squad. Kennedy said Palmer as a sinker and a cutter and tosses in a changeup once in a while. Kennedy described him as a "smart veteran who knows how to get guys out." Palmer was 9-11 with a 6.44 ERA last season.

--Kennedy said it was unlikely he would use Alex Hinshaw or Dale Thayer out of the bullpen Monday after each went two or more innings Sunday against Fresno. Thayer threw 30 pitches and Hinshaw tossed 26.
