Pregame notes from manager Terry Kennedy:

--Catcher Yasmani Grandal was officially put on the 7-day disabled list with a right hamstring injury. Kennedy was unsure if Grandal would go on the road with the Padres for their upcoming 8-game road trip or stay back and rehab at San Diego's spring training facility in Peoria. He said he would see how Grandal was feeling before the trip.

--Jeremy Rodriguez was transferred from extended spring training to Tucson to fill Grandal's spot. However, Kennedy said Rodriguez would just be in Tucson for one game. Rocky Gale, another catcher in San Diego's organization, is on his way to join Tucson from Class-A Lake Elsinore, Kennedy said and will take Rodriguez's spot.

--Right-handed reliever Ryan Kelly was also added to the roster before Tuesday's game, taking Josh Spence's spot. Spence was promoted to the big leagues. Kelly was acquired in the offseason from Texas for catcher Luis Martinez. He has appeared in two games so far for Double-A San Antonio and hasn't given up a hit in four innings. Kennedy said he's eager to get Kelly into a game and could look to get him in tonight.

--Infielder Everth Cabrera was out of the lineup for a third straight day because of a stiff back and didn't participate in pregame batting practice. Kennedy said because of that, he doesn't expect Cabrera to play Wednesday, but that he is getting close.

--With Cabrera hurt, the only two available bats off the bench for Kennedy are Rodriguez and Amadeo Zazueta. He said if he was in a real pinch, Cabrera could possibly come in to lay down a bunt or something similar, but he'd prefer not to use him.
