Whatever happens tonight, Long Beach State coach Dan Monson will likely be OK with it.
The 49ers are virtually rebuilding this season, but Monson said the experience of playing teams such as Arizona will pay off in Big West Conference play. There are other benefits, too.
"These games have also really helped us in recruiting," Monson said. "These kids don't always get to go to Arizona. As a competitor, these are fun games and even though we will probably always get overwhelmed, it's fun to see where we're at."
There's also this: Arizona will pay LBSU $95,000 for showing up tonight.
The game will start at 8 p.m., with coverage on the Pac-12 Networks (Kevin Calabro and Matt Muehlebach).
Our full advance coverage for today looked at Monson's efforts to rebuild after three key players were booted from the team after last season. (A scouting report and notebook are also included on the link).
