Lute Olson gave ESPN's Andy Katz the answer that, if true, suggests the whole David Salinas situation is irrelevant to UA basketball: That he invested with Salinas after he stopped coaching the Wildcats.
(Olson has not returned my messages on the subject).
If true, that means there was no financial connection between Olson and Salinas at the time that Jawann McClellan committed to UA as a player for Salinas' Houston Select program in the summer of 2002. (McClellan said Tuesday that he believed other coaches probably did try to gain leverage in his recruitment by investing with Salinas but that he did not choose UA because of a relationship between Olson and Salinas).
It's unclear whether the NCAA is looking into whether there are potential violations from all the various coaches involved with Salinas: Katz quotes a source saying the NCAA is not looking into it but Fox 26 Houston says it is, noting that Moses Malone Jr. was contacted by NCAA officials about his connection with Salinas.
