Lots of connections in tonight's UTEP-UA game at McKale Center (8 p.m. Arizona time, FSN national):

-- UTEP guard C.J. Cooper is the nephew of Long Beach St. Anthony coach Eric Cooper, a former Wildcat and the father of 2014 UA commit Eric Cooper. He's also a longtime friend of UA freshman forward Grant Jerrett, playing together with him under Cooper at LaVerne (Calif.) Lutheran High School.

“At first it will be different because I’m used to playing on the same team as him but it’s something I’ve got to get used to pretty quickly.” Cooper said of facing Jerrett tonight.

Cooper said he chose UTEP because he thought highly of Floyd at USC and because of the Miners’ fan support. “He was a big part of it and I really liked the city,” Cooper said. “I like how the fans come out and support the team.”

-- Brandon Ashley and UTEP center Matt Willms were teammates last season at Nevada's Findlay Prep.

-- UTEP assistant coach Phil Johnson is a longtime Tim Floyd aide who served as an assistant under Lute Olson on the Wildcats' 1997 national championship team.

"I feel like I've got the best assistant in the country," Floyd said of Johnson. "He's just tremendous and one of the great, great teachers and people I’ve ever been around."

-- Redshirting UA forward Matt Korcheck originally signed a letter-of-intent for UTEP before heading to Cochise College and landing at UA this season.

--

Reminder to anyone out-of-state who has accessed FSN games via a Comcast regional sports network: You probably won't get tonight's game because Comcast no longer carries FSN content.

In New York, however, MSG Plus is scheduled to carry the game.

--

Justin Kutcher and Marques Johnson will call the game tonight for FSN, which has also announced that former UA player Corey Williams was hired to work five Pac-12 games this season. Williams worked locally broadcast UA games last season along with Dave Sitton.

Williams will be the analyst, and Steve Physioc the play-by-play voice, for the following games:

Jan. 6: Oregon/Oregon State

Jan. 19: Arizona/Arizona State

Jan. 27: California/Colorado

Feb. 2: Colorado/Utah

March 2: ASU/USC

FSN has also hired Steve Kerr to work one Pac-12 game this season, USC-UCLA on Feb. 24.
