SHREVEPORT, La. — The Arizona Wildcats will have a different backup quarterback Tuesday in the AdvoCare V100 Bowl.

Redshirt freshman Javelle Allen, who served as the No. 2 quarterback this season behind B.J. Denker, has been dismissed from the team for violating team policies, coach Rich Rodriguez said after today's practice.

Rodriguez didn't elaborate on what Allen was dismissed for. The coach said either junior Jesse Scroggins or sophomore Nick Isham will serve as Denker's backup Tuesday against Boston College.

"It will be an either-or deal with those two," Rodriguez said.

Allen played in five games this season, but didn't see much action. The highlight of his season came in the season-opener against NAU when he had a 61-yard touchdown run in the fourth quarter. He was 0 for 1 passing on the year.

The UA will now dress just three quarterbacks for Tuesday's game. The program still has plenty of depth for next season even with Denker graduating.

Scroggins and Isham will be joined by Anu Solomon, who redshirted this season, and Texas transfer Connor Brewer. Arizona also signed junior college transfer Jerrard Randall earlier this month and he will arrive on campus in January. The Wildcats also have a verbal commitment from California high school product Brandon Dawkins.

Allen isn't the only player no longer with the program.

Rodriguez said backup defensive lineman Justin Washington and reserve offensive lineman Eric Bender-Ramsay have left the program. Washington and Bender-Ramsay have both already graduated.

"It was kinda a mutual thing," Rodriguez said of Washington and Bender-Ramsay leaving the program. "It was time for them to move on and time for us to move on."

Washington played in all 12 games this season and had 13 tackles, including 3 1/2 for a loss. Bender-Ramsay was used mostly on special teams.
