Rich Rodriguez is starting to collect running backs like he does quarterbacks.

The Arizona Wildcats got a commitment this afternoon from junior college running back Kendall Williams. Williams is rated as a three-star recruit by the Scout.com recruiting service and had an offer from Georgia State and interest from Arkansas, Illinois, Arizona State, Illinois, Iowa State, Tennessee and more.

Williams, a 2015 recruit, is the second junior college running back of the class. Dami Ayoola, an Arizona Western product who began his career at Illinois, committed to Arizona last month.

Williams played at Butte Community College in Oroville, Calif., last season and ran for 1,156 yards and nine touchdowns. He prepped at North Little Rock High School in Arkansas and committed to Division II Arkansas Tech. But Williams left school after one semester and left the program early in the year.

He was ready to move home and quit football when a trainer at Arkansas Tech passed Williams’ name on to an assistant coach at Butte who had interest in the running back. He moved out to California last summer and helped lead the Roadrunners to a 12-0 season.

Williams was offered by Arizona this afternoon after visiting the campus this weekend. The running back attended Rodriguez’s one-day prospect camp on Saturday and impressed coaches with his quick time in the 40-yard dash and high marks on the strength tests.

He quickly called his mom after Arizona offered and decided to commit.

“It was an amazing visit,” Williams said. “I fell in love with the stadium, the facilities, the coaching staff, everything. I put up some great numbers when I was there and had a great visit.”

Williams will play the upcoming season at Butte and will arrive at Arizona as a mid-year enrollee in January with two years of eligibility remaining.

Arizona could have as many as seven running backs on scholarship in 2015. Williams and Ayoola should join Jared Baker, Pierre Cormier, Zach Green, Jonathan Haden and Nick Wilson as scholarship backs on the roster.

The running back is the ninth commitment for 2015 for the Wildcats. Seven of the nine are offensive players.
