Arizona Wildcats shortstop Kevin Newman was named a Louisville Slugger Freshman All-American by Collegiate Baseball newspaper this morning.

The rookie from Poway, Calif., started all 55 games for the Wildcats this season and and had no problem adjusting to college baseball. Newman batted .336, which was fourth best on the team and 11th best in the Pac-12.

He led the team with 23 multiple-hit games and a .329 average on the road. He was also eighth in the Pac-12 with 42 RBIs. 

Newman was also a standout in the field. He made just six errors at short and had a .975 fielding percentage. He had a team-leading 164 assists and helped turn 45 double plays.

The shortstop will spend his summer playing for the Falmouth Commodores of the Cape Cod League. He'll be joined by teammate Joe Maggi.
