IRVINE, Calif. — Arizona Wildcats senior Kevin Cordes and Tucsonan Matt Grevers won their events at the U.S. national championships on Thursday night.

Cordes won the 200-meter breast stroke in 2 minutes 9.48 seconds.

Grevers took the 50 butterfly in 23.50.

Also on Thursday, Katie Ledecky beat defending champion Missy Franklin to win the 200 free in a showdown of teen swimming queens. Ledecky led the last 150 meters and touched in a career-best 1:55.16. Franklin was second in 1:56.40.
