The Arizona Wildcats' busy recruiting week continued Friday.
The UA landed their eighth commitment since last Saturday when Iowa Western Community College safety Jamie Byrd pledged to the Wildcats. Byrd spent the first two years of his college career at TCU.
Byrd is the fifth junior college player to commit to the UA for 201,4 and 22nd commitment overall. The safety is expected to graduate in December and then have two seasons of eligibility remaining at the UA.
"Arizona was one of the first places I was talking about going once I left TCU," Byrd said. "We made it happen. It was something I really couldn't turn down."
He was a standout at Pasco High School in Dade City, Fla., and committed to TCU. Byrd redshirted in 2011 and then played in 12 games last season for the Horned Frogs - mostly on special teams.
Following the season, Byrd decided to transfer to Iowa Western, where he will play this upcoming year. Byrd said he transferred because he "didn't have a future there after they changed position coaches."
Byrd chose the Wildcats over offers from Illinois, Middle Tennessee and Georgia State. He's rated as a two-star recruit by the Scout.com recruiting service and a three-star by Rivals.com.
"I'm so excited, I want to be there already," Byrd said.
