For decades, the Arizona Wildcats' gridiron legends have been synonymous with the jersey numbers they've worn.

But who's the best?

Play our numbers game, as we ask the question: Who is the quintessential UA football player to wear each number?

Who wore it best?

The number: 25

The showdown: Vance Johnson vs. his nephew, Ka'Deem Carey

The comparison

Vance Johnson (1981-84)

The stats: Johnson ran for 1,873 career yards on 471 attempts, which at the time was eighth-most in school history. At the time, his 20 rushing touchdowns were second only to the Cactus Comet himself, Art Luppino.

The details: Johnson was more than a running back; he caught passes and returned kicks. The Cholla High School grad logged 11 career receiving scores and finished with 1,014 receiving yards. When he graduated with 4,343 career all-purpose yards, Johnson trailed only Luppino and "T" Bell.

The postscript: A second-round draft pick of the Denver Broncos in 1985, Johnson was one of the legendary "Three Amigos" receiving corps. He played in three Super Bowls for Denver and was inducted into the UA Hall of Fame in 1991.

Ka'Deem Carey (2011-present)

The stats: As a sophomore last year, Carey had the greatest rushing season in school history. His 1,929 yards on 303 rushing attempts were both single-season school records and led the nation. Only four Pac-12 running backs have ever fared better.

The details: The Canyon del Oro High School graduate's superlatives don't stop there. His 24 touchdowns tied Luppino's 1954 season for the most ever at the UA, and his 2,248 all-purpose yards fell one short of Dennis Northcutt's school record in 1999. His 172 rushing yards in the New Mexico Bowl was a UA postseason mark.

The postscript: Perhaps the most exciting part about Carey's career is that he could play two more years at the UA.

The one-sentence debate: UA had other greats wear 25 - All-Americans Josh Miller and Jackie Wallace wore the number, too - but a family matchup between the two native Tucsonans is too sweet a debate to pass up.
