A trial has been set for Arizona Wildcats All-America running back Ka'Deem Carey.

Carey will go to trial on July 12 in Tucson City Court on assault and disorderly conduct charges stemming from a December incident involving his pregnant ex-girlfriend. Carey did not appear at a Tuesday morning hearing.

The accuser appeared in court, and the judge granted her request to lift the no-contact order against Carey.

She cried when she spoke with the judge and said she thought the court proceedings were "over the top" for what happened.

The judge told her that a trial date had been set, and that it was up to the prosecutor to move forward with prosecution. Carey pleaded not guilty on Jan. 17; he last appeared in court March 19.

Carey, a Tucson native and Canyon del Oro High School graduate, is one of college football's top running backs. He led the nation with 1,929 rushing yards and set school records for yards and rushing touchdowns last fall. He was named a consensus All-American as a sophomore. Carey took part in the Wildcats' spring practices, which ended April 13.
