Rob Gronkowski finally returned to the playing field on Sunday. But for two other former Arizona Wildcats, it was a weekend to forget.
Eagles quarterback Nick Foles left Sunday’s game against the Cowboys after suffering a concussion, while Bears linebacker Lance Briggs was forced from Chicago’s game against the Redskins with a shoulder injury.
Foles is listed as doubtful to play in this week’s game against the Jets. The news is worse for Briggs: The linebacker is expected to miss four to six weeks, though he will not need surgery.
Player of the Week
K, New York Jets
The Arizona alum converted on his third game-winning field goal of the season when he booted a 42-yarder to beat the Patriots in overtime Sunday. Folk knocked in three field goals and three extra points against New England; he has still yet to miss a kick this year. Folk has made 2 of 3 kicks in his career against the Cincinnati Bengals, the Jets’ next opponent.
Four to watch
TE, New England Patriots
The UA product caught eight passes for 114 yards in his first game back with the Patriots. Gronkowski plays Sunday against the Dolphins, a team he has yet to lose to in his career.
NT, Houston Texans
The ex-Wildcat produced his first sack of the year against the Chiefs. Mitchell and the Texans have this week off, and will return to action Nov. 3 against Indianapolis.
FB/LB Tampa Bay Buccaneers
The ex-Wildcat recovered a fumble in last weekend’s game against the Falcons. His Bucs will try for their first win of the year tonight vs. Carolina.
DB, Arizona Cardinals
The ex-UA star recorded his third straight game with a tackle in last Thursday’s loss to Seattle. The Cardinals play the Falcons this week.
The Big Number
80 Passing yards for Nick Foles through three quarters before he left Sunday’s game with a concussion.
Give the Devil his due
Every week, we’ll highlight one former ASU player who’s playing well at the pro level. (Relax, people, it’s just one guy.)
TE, Seattle Seahawks
The ASU product caught five passes — including a 15-yard touchdown grab — in last week’s win over the Cardinals. The TD reception was his third of the season and the 18th of his career. Miller and the Seahawks will look to remain on top of the NFC West Division when they take on the Rams Monday.
He Said It
“London today! First time leaving the country very excited!”
— Jaguars quarterback Matt Scott (@mscottqb10) on Twitter Monday. The former Wildcat is on the Jaguars’ practice squad, and will help them as they prepare to play the San Francisco 49ers at Wembley Stadium on Sunday.
