The preseason high school football All-Southern Arizona team continues today with No. 2 on our list of 22 players. Check out a video clip on KVOA Channel 4 tonight at 6 and 10. The team was chosen by Arizona Daily Star and the staff at KVOA and will be revealed daily through Aug. 22.

Jacob Arzouman • OL • 6-4, 275 • Salpointe Catholic, Sr.

• Who he is: With apologies to Canyon del Oro's Jesse Caldwell Jr., Arzouman is widely considered the best lineman in Southern Arizona. Blocking for the 9-1 Lancers last season, Arzouman caught the eye of UA coach Mike Stoops and his staff. He was offered a scholarship to play for UA and now, along with CDO's Ka'Deem Carey, tops a short list of local players who know where they'll play next season. Arzouman says it's a relief to have his college plans figured out, especially because Salpointe has big plans this year, and he needs to concentrate. With Salpointe coming off a one-year playoff ban for a recruiting violation, Arzouman is hungrier than ever. With a new quarterback in senior transfer Jordan Scelfo, and the return of last year's freshman running back Johnny Peña, Arzouman's expertise on the offensive line will be depended upon heavily.

• Proof he's good: The UA's scholarship offer may have been the best tip-off that Arzouman is the real deal. While he was unable to showcase his skills in the playoffs, he used his 10 regular-season opportunities to show his grasp of the position, almost never missing a block and using his athleticism to protect his quarterback against an array of defensive sets. This year, Arzouman comes in 25 pounds heavier, and acknowledges the possibility of playing on both sides of the ball, something he rarely did last year. Arzouman was determined to help his team to an undefeated record last year. So it's scary to think what Arzouman might do with a potential state title on the line.

• He said it: "I think our potential is through the roof. You look at what Johnny did last year and then add the possibility of having a great passer in Jordan. It could end up being a lot like two years ago with (quarterback) Trevor Eggleston and (running back) Christian Ramirez, where we can pass the ball and run the ball."
