The preseason high school football All-Southern Arizona team continues today with No. 14 on our list of 22 players. Check out a video clip on KVOA (Channel 4) tonight at 5:30 and 10. The team was chosen by the Arizona Daily Star and the staff at KVOA and will be revealed daily through Aug. 22.

SHAKIR SMITH • QB • 6-1, 165 • Tucson, SENIOR

• Who he is: Electrifying at times as a junior, what Shakir Smith lacked in maturity he often made up for with athleticism. With another year of seasoning, Smith's decision-making abilities could make him the top QB in Southern Arizona. He was selected as the 5A Southern Region's first-team all-region QB as a junior, beating out Ironwood Ridge's Tyler D'Amore.

• Proof he's good: The epitome of a dual threat at quarterback, Smith threw for 1,137 yards and nine touchdowns, and ran for another 488 and five scores. Besides Canyon del Oro's Ka'Deem Carey, there is not a smoother offensive threat in Southern Arizona.

• What makes him special: Aside from calling plays for the Badgers, Smith is also a nationally ranked point guard on the basketball court. ESPN lists Smith as the 75th-best point guard prospect for the class of 2011, noting his quickness and exceptionally long wingspan.
