Nick Foles passed his first test Tuesday. The next one comes this weekend.

Eagles coach Chip Kelly has named Foles, a former UA standout, as the starting quarterback for Sunday’s game against the Raiders. Foles suffered a concussion against the Cowboys two weeks ago, but was cleared to return earlier this week.

While Foles was healing last weekend, Michael Vick and Matt Barkley split time at quarterback. Vick hurt his hamstring in that game, leaving Barkley and Foles as the Eagles’ only options for Week 9.

Sunday will mark Foles’ third start of the season. He completed 33 of 60 passes for 376 yards and three touchdowns in his previous two starts.

Player of the Week

Nick Folk K, New York Jets

The UA alum remains perfect in 2013. He hit all three field goal attempts, including a season-best 50-yarder, in last week’s game against the Bengals. Folk accounted for all the Jets’ scoring. Folk will put his mark to the test Sunday, when the Jets play the Saints.

Four to watch

Robert Golden DB, Pittsburgh Steelers

The former Wildcat forced his first career fumble and picked up a tackle for Pittsburgh in last week’s win over the Raiders. Golden and the Steelers travel to New England this weekend to face the Patriots.

Rob Gronkowski TE,

New England Patriots

Gronkowski caught two passes for a total of 27 yards in the Patriots’ win over Miami. The tight end has three touchdowns in his career games against the Steelers, the team he will face Sunday.

Brooks Reed LB, Houston Texans

After taking in a Sabino High School game during his bye week, Reed will return to action Sunday night against the Colts. Reed, a Sabino and UA grad, ranks fifth on the Texans’ roster with 28 tackles.

Spencer Larsen FB,

Tampa Bay Buccaneers

The UA product played in his fourth game of the season in last week’s loss to the Panthers. Tampa Bay faces Seattle this week.

The Big Number

69 Points accrued by Jets kicker Nick Folk this season. He ranks fourth in the NFL, 10 behind league leader Matt Prater.

Give the Devil his due

Every week, we’ll highlight one former ASU player who’s playing well at the pro level. (Relax, people, it’s just one guy.)

Vontaze Burfict LB, Cincinnati Bengals

The NFL’s leading tackler racked up 11 stops and one pass deflection in last week’s win over the Jets. The former Sun Devil now has 85 tackles in eight games this season. Burfict and the Bengals will be going for their fifth straight win tonight in Miami.

He Said It

“A concussion is not something that you want to go through, but they were great to support me. My teammates were great and the coaching staff was, too. A week later, I feel great and feel healthy. It was great being back out there and I’m excited to just keep going.” — Foles, to The Associated Press on Tuesday.
