Sunday was a day of many firsts for Jeff Tuel.

The former Salpointe Catholic High School quarterback received his first career start in the Bills’ 23-13 loss to the undefeated Chiefs.

It only took 13 minutes from the start of the game before the quarterback tossed his first professional touchdown pass, a 59-yard pass to Marquise Goodwin. Tuel completed 18 of 39 passes for 229 yards and rushed three times for 17 yards.

Tuel may be back on the bench this week against Pittsburgh; Buffalo quarterbacks Thad Lewis and E.J. Manuel are expected to return from injuries.

Player of the Week

Nick Foles QB, Philadelphia Eagles

The former Arizona Wildcat added his name to the NFL record books Sunday, when he threw for seven touchdowns in a win over the Raiders. Foles joined Peyton Manning and five others as the only quarterbacks to ever toss seven touchdowns in a game. Foles also set a career-high with 404 passing yards. This week, the Eagles will face the Packers, a team Foles has yet to face in his two years in the NFL.

Four to watch

• Rob Gronkowski TE, New England Patriots

The former Wildcat caught a season-high nine passes for 143 yards last week. Gronkowski will have a week to rest with the Patriots on a bye.

• Juron Criner WR, Oakland Raiders

The UA product stepped on the field for the first time this season Sunday and caught three passes for a career-high 32 yards. Criner’s Raiders travel to the New York this week to face the Giants.

• Nick Folk K, New York Jets

Folk converted four field goals and two extra points in Sunday’s win over the Saints. His perfect kicking record will remain intact for another week, since New York is on a bye.

• Earl Mitchell

NT, Houston Texans

Mitchell accumulated four tackles in a loss to the Indianapolis Colts. Mitchell and teammate Brooks Reed will go up against their former UA teammate Antoine Cason when the Texans and Cardinals meet Sunday in Glendale.

The Big Number

Nick Foles’ seven touchdowns now account for 36.8 percent of his career scoring totals. Foles had 12 career passing touchdowns before Sunday’s win in Oakland.

Give the Devil his due

Terrell Suggs LB, Baltimore Ravens

The former Arizona State star recorded his ninth sack of the season in last week’s 24-18 loss to the Cleveland Browns. Suggs also had seven tackles, bringing his season total to 60. The Ravens and Suggs take on the Bengals this Sunday.

He Said It

“I didn’t want to lose my mentality that I started the game with, so I had no clue how many touchdowns I had thrown or anything.”
