Catalina Foothills and Sabino shined during the second day of swimming and diving preliminaries in the state meet at the Kino Aquatics Center in Mesa.
One day after the Division I schools had their day, Division II took center stage Friday and is now ready for today's finals.
For the Falcons, sophomore Daniella Emami qualified first in the 200-yard individual medley with a time of 2 minutes 14.14 seconds.
The Catalina Foothills 200 freestyle relay team also took first, finishing in 1:41.04. The team consists of Krista Duffield, Jessica Honea, Bonnie Diamond and Emami.
The Foothills girls also qualified swimmers for the finals in the 200 freestyle, 50 freestyle, 100 freestyle, 500 freestyle and 100 breast stroke.
Sabino's LeighAnne Oliver had a brilliant day for the Sabercats. Oliver was first in the 500 free, finishing in 5:02.32. She also took first in the 100 breast stroke.
She was also part of the 400 freestyle relay team that took first. Oliver teamed with Courtney Dangremond, Caitlin Wright and Michaela Valentine. The team finished in 3:39.95.
Oliver, Dangremond and Wright were part of the state champion team in that event last season.
Wright also had a big day, taking second in the 200 free (1:53.97) and advancing to the finals of the 500 free.

On the boys side, the Sabercats 200 freestyle relay took second. Joey Heinman, Christian Bidegain, Ian McLeod and J.T. Oliver made up the team.
The above four also took fourth in the medley relay.
