At Campo Verde, the seventh-seeded Coyotes capitalized on the mistakes of No. 10 Sahuaro to knock the Cougars from the Division II state playoffs. Sahuaro wide receiver/defensive back Cole Sterns had 156 yards receiving and two touchdowns in the loss to finish the season with 1,168 yards and 16 touchdowns.

• Highlight reel: Sterns and Sahuaro quarterback Laramie Brown connected on a 72-yard touchdown in the third quarter to tie the game at 21.

Player of the game: Sterns. The senior had 170 total yards and two touchdowns, and an interception on defense.

By the numbers: 5. Sahuaro turned the ball over five times, three times on fumbles, including two in the fourth quarter.
