At Mountain View, Corbin Gouby and the Mountain Lions (2-1) suffered their first loss against the Wildcats (2-1). The defensive slugfest had a bizarre ending due to clock stoppage technicalities on Mesquite’s game-winning field goal to end the game.

• Highlight reel: Mountain View’s Cody Rochon sprinted up the middle 35 yards on a QB keeper for a TD in the second quarter.

• Player of the game: Rochon passed for 108 yards and rushed for two TDs in a losing effort.

• By the numbers: 72. Mountain View was held to 72 yards rushing in the game, 238 yards below its average.

• He said it: “The game shouldn’t have come down to a field goal. We didn’t play mistake-free football tonight. “ — Mountain View coach Clarence McRae
