At Marcos de Niza, the defending Division II state champions played inspired and went into halftime leading 16-7 before No. 6 Marcos de Niza held the Nighthawks scoreless in the second half. I-Ridge junior linebacker Austin Goddard had two sacks and sophomore running back Cole McLafferty finished with 89 yards.

• Highlight reel: Marcos de Niza quarterback Joshua Eckley hit Jake Lagunas on a 55-yard scoring pass in the third quarter to give the Padres a 21-16 lead.

Player of the game: I-Ridge junior QB Dylan Key rushed for both of his team’s TDs.
