At Apollo, in a rematch from last year’s Division II state quarterfinals, the Apollo Hawks (1-1) were able to avenge their loss to the defending Division II champion Ironwood Ridge Nighthawks (2-1) with a back-and-forth 35-28 victory filled with plenty of momentum swings.

Highlight reel: Midway through the third quarter, I-Ridge quarterback Dylan Key hit Michael Volk for a big 45-yard touchdown strike.

Player of the game: Key finished with 130 yards passing and two touchdowns, while also tacking on a rushing touchdown.

By the numbers: 3: Turnovers by the I-Ridge offense, including a late interception that sealed the game for Apollo.

He said it: “Turnovers are part of the game. That’s just football. They made plays and we’ve got to make more.” — I-Ridge coach Matt Johnson
