Salpointe Catholic sophomore Yash Parikh, the No. 1 seed in the Division II state singles tournament, kept his hopes for a perfect season alive with two comfortable victories Friday to move onto the semifinals.

The Lancers sophomore, who’s a perfect 18-0 on the season in singles matches, cruised past Flowing Wells’ Gretis Li 6-0, 6-0 in the quarterfinals at Paseo Racquet Center in Glendale after winning 6-0, 6-0 in the third round early in the day. Parikh will face his first ranked opponent of the state tournament, No. 4 Luke Carstens of Scottsdale Notre Dame Prep, in today’s semifinals.

No. 3 Ryan Knox of Ironwood Ridge, No. 5 Francisco Ton of Nogales and Roberto Cota of Pueblo lost in the quarterfinals.

In doubles play, both teams from Catalina Foothills moved on to the semifinals. The top-seeded pair of Nate Rasmussen and Quinn Gardner defeated the No. 8 duo from Prescott 6-2, 6-2.

The Falcons’ No. 3-seeded team of Bogdan Racolta and John Miller edged the No. 6 pair of Alvaro Leon and Joseph Lucker of Salpointe 6-1, 6-2. Buena’s No. 5 pair of Dallen Haws and Gabriel Ruffo, and Nogales’ No. 7 pair of Alexis Ton and Alan Soto-Hopkins also lost in the quarterfinals.

Division II girls

The top singles seed, Kirtana Bhat of Foothills, advanced with ease to the semifinals after taking down No. 8 Stephanie Nickles of Ironwood Ridge 6-0, 6-1.

Bhat is searching for her second-straight state title.

Kirtana, too, is the only remaining Southern Arizona player in DII singles play after Rincon/University’s Gabby Vendable fell 7-6, 6-2 to No. 5 Natalia Lombardi of Notre Dame Prep. Bhat will meet Lombardi in the semifinals.

In doubles play, No. 4 Catherine Waters and Carrie Bell Kent of Rincon/University beat Angelica Anderson and Caroline Leidy of Foothills 6-2, 6-4.

The No. 3 pair from I-Ridge, Kelsey Brown and Allison Knox, and Foothills’ other team, No. 2 Noelle Karp and Katie Watson, also advanced to the semifinals.

Division III Boys

Pusch Ridge Christian’s No. 2 duo, Davis Towne and Camron Vick, will face the third-ranked pair from Benson, Andrew Guilliams and Steven Barrera, in the semifinals today at 10 a.m.

Towne and Vick cruised by Bisbee’s Marc Anthony Luna and Emilio Mendez in the quarterfinals 6-1, 6-0. Guilliams and Barrera beat the No. 6 Desert Christian team of Seth Buell and Derrick Wood in three sets. In singles play, No. 2 seed David Strong of St. Gregory and No. 4 seed Jarod Bristol of Pusch Ridge advanced to the semifinals.

Division III girls

Desert Christian’s No. 3 pair of Jenna Cray and Harika Echuri won 6-0, 6-1 and will face No. 2 Buckeye Union in the semis. Desert Christian’s No. 6 singles player, Courtenay Gleason, fell 6-0, 6-0.
