Top-seeded Cienega topped Scottsdale Chaparral 12-5 in Thursday's Class 5A state softball semifinals, advancing to Monday's championship game.

Who the Bobcats will play — and where — is yet to be determined. Third-seeded Sahuaro fell to Queen Creek 10-3 in Thursday's semifinals, forcing a winner-take-all elimination game Friday. The team that advances will face Cienega in a game scheduled for Farrington Stadium in Tempe. The game could be moved to Tucson if its an all-Southern Arizona final.

Local teams went 1-2 in softball on Thursday. Tucson High was eliminated from the 6A playoffs by Chandler Hamilton, falling 6-2. Hamilton initially beat the Badgers 7-0 last week, forcing them to the loser's bracket.

There's still plenty of high school sports to be played this week. Cienega's boys volleyball team will play in the Class 5A state championship match Friday in Gilbert, and Salpointe Catholic will face Nogales on Saturday in the 4A state baseball championship at Hi Corbett Field.
