In their first year, the Tucson Saguaros have set a Pecos League record.

Tucson’s minor-league baseball team beat the host Alpine (Texas) Cowboys 5-4 Wednesday night and, in the process, set a new Pecos League record with 51 wins. Manager JD Droddy's team (51-13) has won 17 straight games; its last loss came on July 4.

Michael Rampone went 1-for-4 and hit a seventh-inning home run Wednesday night, and Matt Kelley earned the win on the mound.

The Saguaros, who wrap up their regular season on Thursday, have earned a first-round bye in the Pecos League playoffs. They’ll take on either Roswell or Alpine a playoff series Aug. 4 at Kino Stadium.
