It's the last full week of March so that means the matchups are just going to keep getting better.

A good way to start the week out is with a huge softball game when Canyon del Oro and Sahuaro - two of the top teams in Division II - face off for the only time in the regular season.

Meanwhile, there will be a big boys volleyball game at Salpointe Catholic on Tuesday and there will be plenty of baseball to catch at Cherry Field.

Here's a look at what's going on around town this week:

Today

Softball: Sahuaro is undefeated at home and ranked third in Division II. Canyon del Oro is second, undefeated in nontournament games and has yet to lose to a Southern Arizona foe.

This might be the Southern Arizona Game of the Year.

First pitch is scheduled for 4 p.m. as the Cougars try to avenge a 5-1 loss at CDO last season.

Tuesday

Boys volleyball: Ironwood Ridge started out 4-1 in power-point games but has since dropped two straight. The Nighthawks, fresh off a five-set loss to Catalina Foothills, will try to end their skid when they travel to local power Salpointe at 6 p.m.

The Lancers are undefeated at home and have senior Jimmy Gehrels and junior Ryan Callaghan both averaging four kills per set.

Tuesday-Friday

Baseball: A dozen teams from four different states will compete in the Chris Moon Memorial Classic starting Tuesday at 8 a.m., when the host Badgers play Pomona High from Colorado.

The five other local teams in the field are Cholla, Rincon/University, Pusch Ridge Christian, Sabino and Sunnyside.

The first two days will consist of pool play and the final two will be bracket play.

The event is named after Moon, a former Badgers standout who died in 2010 from injuries sustained when he stepped on a roadside bomb in Afghanistan while serving with the Army. Moon was drafted by the Atlanta Braves but played for the UA instead, before entering the military.
