This week marks the end of the road for the soccer and wrestling teams and kicks off the postseason for basketball teams.

The sectional tournaments for basketball begin Tuesday. A day later, three of four local soccer teams in the state semifinals will try to advance to the finals, which are on Saturday.

Here's a look at what to watch for in the early part of the week:

It's the first Tuesday night in a while without soccer, but there will be plenty of basketball.

Pusch Ridge Christian and Canyon del Oro will kick off the girls Division II, Section I tournament when they meet for the fifth time this season at Amphitheater at 5:45 p.m.

The Lions (19-9) beat the Dorados (18-9) in the first four meetings.

The boys tournament begins Wednesday. Sectional games will also be hosted locally at CDO, Cholla, Cienega, Empire and Pueblo through Saturday's finals.

Catalina Foothills and Sahuarita will play back-to-back games at Phoenix Paradise Valley starting at 5 p.m., both with hopes of advancing to the girls Division II state final.

No. 3 Foothills, the three-time defending state champions, will play 10th-seeded Scottsdale Notre Dame, and then the No. 8 Mustangs will face fourth-seeded Glendale Apollo in their first game since knocking out top-seeded Sahuaro in penalties.

The No. 7 Palo Verde boys squad will also be in the area, at Phoenix Arcadia, as it takes on third-seeded Phoenix Cortez in the Division III semifinals.

The wrestling state tournament opens in Prescott Valley on Thursday, but just down the road the Salpointe Catholic boys soccer team will be trying to get back to the Division II state championship.

The fourth-seeded Lancers (24-2) play No. 8 Queen Creek at Phoenix Paradise Valley at 7 p.m.

Salpointe is undefeated on neutral fields this year and has won 13 straight games, but the Bulldogs are fresh off upsetting top seed Phoenix South Mountain.
